Pompey fans and former loan clubs were quick to congratulate the young defender, who will be looking to build on his three appearances in last season's EFL Trophy.
Definitely has potential. Nice to see a young lad coming through the ranks

Williams made just six substitue appearances in his last spell with the Blues back in the 2011/12 season, but has since gained promotion out of League One, featured more than 50 times in the Championship and also earned an international call-up.
Very pleased with this.

We've got a proven League One performer, with good Championship experience on top that, in an area where we need more depth, on a free. And he's a good age to boot.
Excellent signing. https://t.co/XQ0YMqcxdo

With the squad returning to pre-season on Thursday, there was a new face among the ranks, as defender Sean Raggett joined the Blues on a season-long loan from Premier League side Norwich.
🎥 You may remember @SeanRaggett from when he scored an FA Cup winner against @BurnleyOfficial for @LincolnCity_FC 👀

Here’s hoping for more memorable moments in a #Pompey shirt 🤞pic.twitter.com/iAvYbrpWaH
26-year-old Raggett – who famously scored the winner for Lincoln against Burnley in the FA Cup – does not have a recall clause and will be looking to build on his loan spell at Rotherham last season.
