Blues Beat Swindon In Friendly

Dennis, Donohue and Isgrove on target

5 March 2019

Louis Dennis, Dion Donohue and Lloyd Isgrove were on target as Pompey beat Swindon 3-0 in a friendly.

The first team trio were joined by Brett Pitman, Adam May, Brandon Haunstrup and Alex Bass for the contest, which was held at Swindon Supermarine’s Webbswood Stadium.

All of the goals arrived in the first half, with a neat Dennis finish opening the scoring after the forward had been sent clear.

The summer signing was then fouled 25 yards out and Donohue stepped up to curl a fine free-kick around the wall and into the net.

And the victory was wrapped up before the break, as the ball was sent into the box from out wide and Isgrove tapped it home.

First team coach Jake Wigley said: “It was a good performance and we dictated play for the majority of the game.

“Louis finished well to get the first goal and was then taken out by a defender, which would have been a red card in a league fixture.

“But Dion curled the free-kick in and Lloyd added another one before half-time, while we created numerous other chances.

“Matt Casey saw two headers cleared from the line, another free-kick from Brett was well saved and he also sent a half-volley looping narrowly over the bar.

“It was a really professional performance from the senior boys and they need minutes under the belt because as we saw on Saturday, you can get injuries at any time.

“The young boys also took advantage of the opportunity to impress in front of the manager, as we controlled possession on a difficult surface.”

Pompey: Bass; Bruce (Maloney 52), Casey, Hancott, Haunstrup; May, Donohue; Read, Pitman, Isgrove; Dennis
