Friends Reunited For Widdows

Striker interviewed in Chichester programme

26 March 2019

Jade Widdows swapped green for blue last month when he joined Pompey from Chichester.

And the striker is looking forward to facing her former club when they visit the PMC Stadium this evening (7.45pm kick-off).

The National League contest comes just three days after the Blues were beaten 3-0 by Cardiff on home soil.

Now they face another high-flying side and Widdows is keen to ensure her current club do not suffer another slip-up.

Speaking in the official matchday programme, she said: “It was an unfortunate loss. Cardiff came with fight and they were prepared to battle harder on the pitch.

“We made it too easy for them in the first half and unfortunately just couldn’t get the momentum back in the second half.

“We had some out outstanding play down the left-hand side from Alex Collighan, who created some good chances, but ultimately it wasn’t enough.”

"With the right encouragement, coaching and belief, I feel I’ve hit the ground running at Pompey."

Widdows netted on her first start of the season for the Lilywhites against Pompey in the cup earlier in the season and is now keep to impress for the Blues.

She said: “With the right encouragement, coaching and belief, I feel I’ve hit the ground running at Pompey.”

And what would happen if a goal arrives against her former club? “I have a lot of respect for my old team-mates, so honestly I couldn’t tell you until the moment arises,” she said. “Hopefully, we can find out!”

Also in issue 13 – available at the ground for just £1 – there is an in-depth look at the visitors, as well as the usual round-ups from Blues boss Jay Sadler and chairman Eric Coleborn.
