Pompey lifted the Checkatrade Trophy following a penalty shoot-out triumph over Sunderland at Wembley.
Nathan Thompson netted his first goal for the Blues in the second half to cancel out Aiden McGeady's deflected free-kick.
And a sumptuous strike from Jamal Lowe looked to have sealed the contest in extra-time, only for McGeady to scramble in a leveller.
Pompey held their nerve in the shoot-out, however, and Craig MacGillivray kept out to Lee Cattermole's effort before Oli Hawkins struck the winning penalty.
