Match Preview: Coventry v Pompey Women

Blues return to league action

2 March 2019

Pompey Women are on the road this afternoon as they face Coventry United in the National League South (2pm kick-off).

They return to the business of trying to collect points after securing a place in the Portsmouth District Football Association Cup last Sunday.

The Blues eased to a 4-1 victory over Moneyfields at Dover Road, as Rachel Panting hit a hat-trick and Emma-Jane May was also on target.

Now Jay Sadler’s outfit will be searching for a similar outcome when they travel to Communications Park.

The manager said: “Coventry will provide a tough test – we know that. They possess a lot of qualities all over the pitch and we will need everyone at their best to achieve the intended outcome.”

The hosts are the only side in the division yet to be beaten this season and are two points behind leaders Chichester, with four games in hand.

Coventry have found goals from all over the pitch, although Amy Wathan leads the way with 14 league strikes so far.

The sides met at the PMC Stadium back in September, when Rachel Panting netted a stunner for Pompey, but efforts from Helen Dermody and Jade Brook secured all three points for the visitors.

Sadler will be without the sidelined May, Jaime Rowlands, Mel Burns and Sarah Eadon, but Caitlin Collighan and Jade Widdows are poised to make their Blues bows.

And you can see if Pompey can inflict a first league loss of the campaign on Coventry at Communications Park (NN11 4NS) today.
