Matt Clarke has won The News/Sports Mail Player of the Season award for a second year in succession.

He was presented with the trophy by chief sports writer Neil Allen before the final game of the regular 2018/19 campaign against Accrington.

The centre-back was selected by readers of our local newspapers after consistently impressing in his 57 appearances this term.

Top scorer Jamal Lowe received the second highest number of votes, with goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray finishing third.

Clarke follows in the footsteps of players like Alan Knight, Mark Hateley, Noel Blake, Paul Walsh, Alan McLoughlin, Peter Crouch, Linvoy Primus, David James and Enda Stevens.

Clarke was also named Player of the Season by all 12 supporter groups who presented trophies.
