Match Preview: Crawley Wasps v Pompey Women

Blues make long-awaited return to action

9 November 2019

Pompey Women are finally back in action this week, as they travel to National League high-fliers Crawley Wasps.

The contest takes place at East Court – home of East Grinstead Town – with the action getting started at 2pm.

Jay Sadler’s side have not been in action for three weeks, with the recent wet weather ensuring a couple of postponement.

They had enjoyed three successive thumping victories before the unwelcome break, scoring 17 goals in the process.

The most recent took place in the League Cup, where a 6-1 rout of Leyton Orient secured safe passage through to the last 16.

And, coincidentally, their next game in that competition is against today’s opponents, with Pompey scheduled to visit the Wasps again in a fortnight.

Charmaine True struck a brace in the previous round, with Eilidh Currie, Jade Widdows, Jade Bradley and Becki Bath also finding the target.

The latter took her impressive personal goal tally for the 2019/20 campaign to eight from as many games.

Prior to that cup triumph, the Blues eased to 7-2 and 4-1 league wins against Keynsham and neighbours Chichester respectively.

They might find it tougher today, however, as Crawley are currently sitting second in the table, with 22 points from nine games.

League leaders Watford have inflicted their only defeat to date and are above the Wasps on goal difference.

Tickets for this afternoon’s match can be bought on the gate, priced £5 for adults and £2 for concessions (U18/63+). There is free entry for U12s.
