Pompey in the Community To Deliver Girls BTEC Extended Diploma

Programme offered for the first time

7 October 2019

Pompey in the Community have linked up with Highbury College to deliver a girls BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport for the first time this season.

There are currently 16 signed up for the first year, along with 45 boys on the same programme.

They will visit Pompey in the Community three days a week, completing elements of educational units, gym sessions and match analysis.

There is also a matchday on the Wednesday, with games in the National Youth Football League.

On Fridays, the girls will attend Highbury College to continue their BTEC studies and also train in the futsal hall, while there is an opportunity to take Maths and English qualifications if required.

It is hoped they will have a chance to play abroad and broaden their experiences of the world of football with external visits and stadium tours, along with a planned trip to watch the Lionesses play Germany in November.

These trips will link into the topics being studied within their BTEC programme, with work experience with the charity is also provided.

The BTEC programme for boys has proved successful, with many of the participants going on to university and scholarship programmes. The programme for girls will offer the same opportunities.

Are you leaving school next summer and want to find out more? Check out the course online or contact btec@pompeyitc.org.uk for more information.
