Blues Receive Premier League Cup Bye

Pompey head straight into group stage

4 September 2019

Pompey Reserves have received a bye through to the group stages of the Premier League Cup.

Jake Wigley’s side were due to visit Doncaster next week for a qualifying round contest at the Keepmoat Stadium.

But with a team withdrawing from the competition, both clubs have now advanced directly to Group D.

They will be joined by Aston Villa and the winners of a qualifier between Cambridge or Exeter, with sides playing each other home and away (date to be confirmed).

The Premier League Cup is a tournament for under-23 teams, although clubs can field three overage outfield players and an overage goalkeeper.

Pompey Reserves are in action at Havant & Waterlooville later this month in the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup.

Matches against Bournemouth, Bristol Rovers and Plymouth follow in the group stages of the Central League Cup.
