We are more than halfway through September and Paul Downing has made only one appearance this month.
Postponed matches mean the defender has had to make do with a low-key start against Crawley in the Leasing.com Trophy.
So he has pleased that the League One programme starts up again with a visit from Burton this evening.
And Downing is now looking forward to a hectic run of fixtures that gives the Blues a chance to climb the table.
The summer signing said: “It feels like a long time coming and after being on the bench on Saturday, I’m looking forward to hopefully getting out there again.
“I’m sure the rest of the lads will be feeling the same because it’s been frustrating, although out of our control.
"It’s good that we’ve got a busy run coming up because it gives you a chance to collect points quickly and move up the table."
“I’ve been here for a while now and we haven’t played many games! But I’m settled down here and enjoying it.
“We just used the break to rest up and now everyone’s ready to kick on because we’ve got a lot of games to come.
“It’s good that we’ve got a busy run coming up because it gives you a chance to collect points quickly and move up the table.
“You’ve always got to look to win your home matches, so hopefully we can do that against Burton and then build from there.
“The training and matches are enjoyable. We’re feeling confident after some good cup performances and now want to take that into the league.”
Downing believes Pompey have all the ingredients needed to enjoy a successful season following a slow start.
He said: “There are lots of options all around the pitch and I’ve always felt that we’ve got a strong squad that just needed some time to gel.
“We’re getting there slowly and now it’s down to everyone to take some responsibility and help the team collect more points.”
