Jackett Relishes Busy Schedule

Boss looks ahead to Burton test

16 September 2019

It has been four weeks since Pompey last played a League One fixture at Fratton Park.

So Kenny Jackett is looking forward to watching his troops in action against Burton on Tuesday evening.

There has been plenty of cup success in the gap between games and now the task is to start moving up the standings.

And with a hectic schedule of fixtures on the horizon, Jackett wants to see Pompey find some consistent form.

The Blues boss said: “It’s a big week for us and we’ve been waiting for the league games to come back around again.

“There have been some positive signs so far and it’s my job as manager to build a confident and winning team. I do feel we’ve got the players to do that.

“We’ve won four cup ties at this stage of the season, but the priority is always the league and we’ve got a big test ahead.

"We also want to put on a show for the supporters that will really get them behind us."

“We’re looking to get that balance right between attack and defence, which we haven’t always done so far.

“But we also want to put on a show for the supporters that will get them behind us. If we do that then they can really drive us forward.

“There’s always pressure in professional football and it’s about winning the next game – we’re no different.

“It's still early in the season and our aim is for both performances and results to be good. We’re keen to start improving our position.

“There’s a busy run ahead that gives us a chance to hopefully find a rhythm. It’s a new group for us this season and they quickly need to find their feet in this division.”

Pompey face a Brewers side who drew with top-of-the-table Coventry at the weekend and are currently sitting in 11th spot.

Jackett said: “Burton will, quite rightly, have their own aspirations to get into the top six in their second year since coming down from the Championship.

“We have a lot of respect for them, but we need to get going in the league and start climbing the table.

“My concentration is on our own side, making sure that we find some consistency and try to get that win we all want.”
