Best+Worst: Ellis Harrison

Pompey striker in the hot-seat

23 April 2020

Pompey striker Ellis Harrison selects some of his bests and worsts...

What is the best thing about being a footballer?
Scoring goals – there’s just no other feeling like it.

What is the best goal you have ever scored?
It was at Wembley for Bristol Rovers in the Conference play-off final against Grimsby. The cross came in for me and I just volleyed it into the roof of the net.

Who is the best player you have appeared alongside?
Billy Bodin or Teddy Bishop – they rarely lost the ball and just add a bit of swagger to the team. It’s not Lee Brown – he’s probably the worst.

Who is the best player you have come up against?
His name is Sisto and he plays for Celta Vigo and Denmark. I came up against him for the Welsh under-21s and he was pretty special.

What is the best thing on television?
Peaky Blinders – it’s my cup of tea.

What is the worst thing about being a footballer?
The loneliness because you probably have a bit too much time to yourself. That’s why you get players who struggle with drinking and gambling.

What is the worst game you have been involved in?
QPR away last season when I was at Ipswich. We lost 3-0 and they slaughtered us for 90 minutes. It was tough.

Who is the worst dressed player in the Pompey dressing room?
McGee, Brown, Pitman are all questionable – Cannon is very questionable.

What is the worst food to eat?
The majority of fish – I just don’t like it.

What is the worst thing on television?
It’s one of those Love Island kind of shows – I can’t stand reality television.
