Pompey have enjoyed a couple of recent victories over sides that will also be targeting promotion this season.

And they will aim to make it a hat-trick when Fleetwood – who reached the play-offs last term – visit Fratton Park on Tuesday evening.

The Blues have already accounted for Peterborough and Ipswich, while they travel to League One leaders Hull on Friday.

So Ronan Curtis knows that they cannot afford to take things easy during the hectic Christmas schedule.

The winger said: “We’re doing the basic things well, scoring goals and, most importantly, winning games.

“Whoever’s in the team and whatever system we’re playing, we work really had on the training ground every day.

“Anyone really can beat anyone in this league, as shown when we went to Blackpool and didn’t really turn up.

"The character in our dressing room is unbelievable and we’re determined not to take our foot off the gas."

“In the past two games, though, we’ve shown who we really are and everyone has been fighting for each other.

“The character in our dressing room is unbelievable and we’re determined not to take our foot off the gas.

“It’s important that we keep doing those basics right and hopefully we’ll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.”

Ryan Williams bagged a brace at Portman Road on Saturday, while a shot from Curtis struck the woodwork.

The Republic of Ireland international said: “I don’t mind if I don’t score, as long as the team is playing well and we can get the three points.

“It was obviously a bit unlucky to see the ball come back off the bar, but I was happy for Willo for his two goals.

“He hasn’t scored that many, but he’s a great player who’s good with both feet and showed what he can do.”
