Pompey Launch New Scholarship With University of Portsmouth

Providing an opportunity for local young people

14 December 2020

Pompey have partnered with the University of Portsmouth to offer a new scholarship for local young people.

The Portsmouth Football Club Scholarship will award £9,000 to a student who is either the first member of their family to progress to higher education or has a household income of under £25,000.

They will receive £3,000 a year towards undergraduate course fees for a maximum of three years, while also getting the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with the club.

Pompey CEO Mark Catlin said: “We are delighted to be able to work with the University of Portsmouth to support students as part of the Portsmouth FC scholarship programme.

“Education is incredibly important and something that should be available to all – regardless of background or income. It is something we are extremely passionate about.”

The University are also offering £5,000 to high achieving individuals from underrepresented backgrounds who are on track to achieve AAA in their A levels (or equivalent) through their new Best Begins Scholarship.

They will receive £3,000 in the first year of study, followed by £1,000 for each subsequent year, as long as requirements are met.

The scholarship will support students to break through barriers to develop their skills and knowledge, and inspire fellow students by becoming an ambassador for the University, to encourage others to progress to higher education.
