Burgess: It's Never Been Dull

Defender interviewed in Shrewsbury programme

14 February 2020

Christian Burgess recently became the second member of the current squad to reach 200 Pompey appearances.

He joined Gareth Evans in the exclusive club after taking to the pitch in the victory over Sunderland a fortnight ago.

And having enjoyed title success and Wembley glory, it has not been a boring period on the south coast for the defender.

The Blues are now involved in another tense promotion bid and Burgess would not have it any other way.

“The milestone has come around really quickly,” he says in the official matchday magazine for Saturday’s match against Shrewsbury. “It’s great for me personally.

“It’s nice to be able to look back and realise you’ve played so many games for one club – especially a massive one like Pompey.

"It’s been a case of ups and downs, which is far better than just floating along with nothing happening."

“It was certainly a proud moment for me and my family. It’s nice to be able to say it, although those personal records aren’t really what I’m focusing on.

“There haven’t really been any dull moments and instead it’s been a case of ups and downs, which is far better than just floating along with nothing happening. It’s been a privilege.”

To read the full interview – where Burgess also discusses Pompey’s promotion bid and cup progress – pick up your copy of the magazine from programme sellers around the ground.

Also in issue 23, Ryan Williams reveals his bests and worsts, while Gareth Evans selects his dream dinner party guests.

We take an extensive look at Shrewsbury, while there are exclusive columns from chief executive Mark Catlin, manager Kenny Jackett, skipper Tom Naylor and broadcaster Ian Darke.

All this and much, much more can be found in a packed 84 pages, with the programme priced just £3.
