Jackett: Everyone Ready For Rochdale

Boss confident in his squad ahead of next game

27 February 2020

Kenny Jackett rung the changes for Pompey’s midweek clash with MK Dons.

And the depth of his squad was clear to see following a 3-1 victory that lifted them up to fifth in the League One standings.

It should not come as much of a surprise to see the team freshened up during a hectic run that includes games in three competitions.

And Jackett would not be afraid to make more alterations when Rochdale visit the south coast on Friday evening.

The Blues boss said: “With 12 games in six weeks – and a performance at Fleetwood that lacked energy – I did feel we needed to change things.

“But I’m confident that the people coming in are both good enough and aware of what’s required of them.

“It’s important that remains seamless because going through a period like we’ve got, the team’s not going to stay the same.

“I’m confident that everyone’s ready to face Rochdale and whoever’s selected is going to be able to give it a good go.

“You always need to win your next game – whoever you are and wherever you are in the league table.

“But with our league position and the number of matches to go, we know it’s going to need a sprint finish.

“The top of the table is very close and we’re one of the sides battling for promotion – we want to make the most of the situation we’ve got ourselves into.

“There won’t be a period of relaxation if we win, though, because we’ll be in over the weekend preparing for another big game on Monday.”

Pompey’s opponents are sitting 19th in the table and will be looking to increase their seven-point gap to the drop zone.

Jackett said: “Rochdale are a very good footballing side and have some talented players in their squad, but coming to places like Fratton Park makes it a slightly different game.

“We’ll give the players the information we think they need, while concentrating on getting our own performance levels right.

“That’s because however well we work out the opposition, you know that they’ll raise their game against us.”
