Jackett: Move On Quickly

Boss only focused on Fleetwood test

20 February 2020

Pompey fans are still coming down from the dramatic events of Tuesday night that secured a spot at Wembley.

But that remarkable victory over Exeter – and April’s trip to the national stadium – has quickly moved to the back of Kenny Jackett’s mind.

There are plenty of League One points to play for before the Leasing.com Trophy final against Salford comes around.

And Jackett’s focus is solely on securing a positive result at Fleetwood this weekend to maintain the promotion charge.

The Blues boss said: “All of the players and coaching staff will say that the league is most definitely our number one priority.

“Everyone was delighted to get through on Tuesday night, but we all know that Saturday is the most important thing.

“Consistency and winning games does of course help you, though, in terms of rolling on to the next game.

"Win, lose or draw, I move on very quickly and make sure the players do as well, so all our concentration is on the weekend."

“The way we finished against Exeter can lift you and provide confidence because Fratton Park was on a real high.

“So we have to take that buoyancy and use it to our advantage, but we need to earn a good result at Fleetwood.

“Win, lose or draw, I move on very quickly and make sure the players do as well, so all our concentration is on the weekend.”

Pompey are facing a Fleetwood side who sit just two points behind them in eighth position, as both sides battle for a place in next season’s Championship.

Jackett said: “We’ve been there once before in the FA Cup and got a win, but they have a strong team and are competing with us in the league.

“Nobody here is underestimating them because the job that Joey Barton and Clint Hill has done there is outstanding.

“You always know it will be difficult against one of your rivals – in terms of where the sides are in the table – and we have to get our own performance right.”
