Andy Cannon is unlikely to make his Pompey return when Shrewsbury visit Fratton Park on Saturday.
The midfielder has missed the past two games with a glute injury he picked up against Sunderland at the start of the month.
And although he is close to getting back to full fitness, Kenny Jackett does not want to take any unnecessary risks.
"Unless we get some unbelievable news on Friday, we won’t risk him."
The Blues boss said: “Andy is out training again, but I don’t think he’s realistically going to make Saturday.
“Unless we get some unbelievable news on Friday, we won’t risk him – it’ll more likely be Tuesday or the following weekend.
“So it looks like we’ll be going with the same group that travelled up to Coventry earlier in the week.”
