Pompey Will Face Salford At Wembley

League Two side beat Newport on penalties

19 February 2020

Pompey will face Salford City at Wembley in the final of the Trophy.

The first ever meeting between the sides takes place on Sunday, April 5, with the Blues looking to lift the silverware for a second successive season.

Salford – who currently sit 11th in the League Two table – beat Newport 6-5 on penalties following a goalless draw in south Wales.

It is the first campaign they are taking part in this competition, having reached the EFL via the National League play-offs last term.

The Blues booked their place in the showpiece event the previous evening following a dramatic victory over Exeter at Fratton Park.

It means that a new date will have to be found for that weekend’s scheduled League One clash with Bristol Rovers at Fratton Park.

Wembley ticket information will be announced in due course, but fans can register their interest and be among the first to hear details.
