Pompey Academy midfielder Stan Bridgman is raising money for Friends Fighting Cancer in memory of Katie Scannell.
Fourteem-year-old Katie, a former schoolmate of Stan’s, sadly passed away in January 2018 after bravely battling a rare form of the disease.
Stan will take part in Friends Fighting Cancer’s latest football tournament, helping to put together a team to participate.
The local-based charity helps families who are, or have been, affected by cancer.
Stan said: “Katie was a bright and enthusiastic girl who always had a smile on her face and would never fail of putting a smile on someone else’s.
“She had so many friends and absolutely adored her family, having a wonderful relationship with her brother Harry.
“Katie spent the last seven weeks of her life at home believing she was going to get better before losing her battle to this awful disease.”
