Pompey have been drawn at home to Barnsley in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.
The Championship outfit will visit Fratton Park on the weekend of January 24-27.
It finished goalless when the sides last met on the south coast for a League One contest 11 months ago.
Barnsley won promotion at the end of that season, but currently find themselves in the relegation places.
It will be the second FA Cup clash between the pair, with the Yorkshire outfit winning 1-0 all the way back in 1907.
Pompey assistant manager Joe Gallen said: "It's always nice to get a home draw – especially after having to travel to Fleetwood in the last round.
"Our record at Fratton Park has been really good this season, so we'll go into the game with a lot of confidence."
"Our record at Fratton Park has been really good this season, so we'll go into the game with a lot of confidence.
"It will be tough against a Barnsley side who pipped us to promotion last year, but we'll expect a positive performance when the tie comes around."
The draw means the return of Pompey academy graduate Conor Chaplin, who has scored nine goals so far this season.
One of them arrived in the 3-1 third round victory at Crewe on Sunday, with Jacob Brown and Luke Thomas also on target.
The Tykes have already got one step further than last season, when they were beaten 1-0 at top-flight Burnley.
Ticket information for the game will be announced in due course. A new date will now have to be found for the League One home fixture against MK Dons, which was scheduled to take place on the same weekend.
