Match Preview: Ipswich v Pompey Women

Blues in FA Cup action

4 January 2020

Pompey Women play their first fixture of 2020 this afternoon when they visit Ipswich in the FA Cup.

The sides meet for the first time ever and will be battling for a place in the fourth round of the prestigious competition.

Jay Sadler’s troops reached this stage with a 6-1 thrashing of Leyton Orient at the PMC Stadium last month.

Becki Bath and Tamsin de Bunsen both bagged a brace that day, with defenders Laura Ingram and Jazz Younger also on target.

Their opponents, meanwhile, compete a level below in the National League Division One South East – currently sitting four points clear at the top of the table.

Ipswich have already had to progress through four ties to get this far and have scored 24 goals in the process.

They enjoyed a 7-0 rout of Royston and beat rivals Norwich 6-1 in the qualifying rounds, then saw off Basildon 5-0 and Chichester 6-0.

Pompey are looking to build on their run of three successive victories, which have all come in different competitions.

In their last contest just before Christmas, the Blues won 2-1 at Crawley Wasps to extend their League Cup adventure.

And they have Katie James available for selection once more, with the midfielder completing a three-match suspension.

The match is being played at Felixstowe’s Goldstar Groud (1pm kick-off) and tickets can be bought on the gate, priced £3 for adults and £1 for concessions (63+/U18), with free entry for under-16s.
