Blues return to league action

11 January 2020

Pompey Women make a long-awaited return to National League action when they visit table-topping Watford this afternoon (3pm kick-off).

Jay Sadler’s side are aiming to bounce back from their narrow FA Cup defeat to Ipswich last weekend.

It is the first time they have been playing for points since winning at Cardiff towards the end of November.

Goals from Tamsin de Bunsen and Eilidh Currie ensured the Blues battled from behind to triumph 2-1 in the Welsh capital.

This will be the third time the sides have met this season, with the previous clashes taking place in the first two weeks of the campaign.

Watford visited the south coast for the opening league fixture back in August and two Helen Ward goals saw them leave with a maximum haul.

They then travelled back down to the PMC Stadium for a League Cup tie just seven days later, with extra-time strikes from de Bunsen and Becki Bath ensuring that Pompey triumphed.

The most recent encounter in Hertfordshire took place last February and the hosts emerged 5-4 winners in an epic clash.

Rachel Panting, Bath and Katie James helped the Blues recover from 4-1 down, only for the Golden Girls to seal success in the final minute.

Watford have dropped just five points so far this season and are three points above Crawley, having played one game more.

Tickets can be bought on the gate at Kings Langley FC (WD4 8BS), priced £6 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for under-18s.
