Naylor: A Big Week

Skipper searching for plenty of points

28 January 2020

There is no doubt that a certain clash with Arsenal will be dominating much of the conversation around Portsmouth for the next few weeks.

But the immediate focus is purely on trying to continue picking up points to climb the League One table.

The Blues visit mid-table Lincoln this evening and then host fellow promotion hopefuls Sunderland on Saturday.

And Tom Naylor is hoping for a performance similar to the one produced in last weekend’s FA Cup victory over Barnsley.

Pompey’s skipper said: “The football we played and the goals that we scored were brilliant and we need to show that level of performance every week.

"It’s a big week for us, but when you get to this stage of the season – and with the position we find ourselves in – every match is going to be massive."

“I think that our attacking threat is unbelievable and you could see that with the guys we had on the bench.

“It’s a big week for us, but when you get to this stage of the season – and with the position we find ourselves in – every match is going to be massive.

“We’ve got this game against Lincoln, which will be tough at their place, and then Sunderland at the weekend.

“It will be the first time I’ve been there in a while, but hopefully we can get a positive result to take back home.”

Pompey’s progress in both the FA Cup and Leasing.com Trophy means that the games are going to come thick and fast.

Naylor said: “We’ve got a big enough squad to deal with that and we know the quality is there for people to step into different positions.

“You want a lot of matches when you’re on a run like we are and we’ll just have to see where these next few weeks take us.”
