Pompey are mourning the loss of Ray Stainton – the club’s former commercial director and general manager – who passed away on Friday morning.
He arrived at Fratton Park in the spring of 1989 following the previous year’s takeover by Jim Gregory.
Ray oversaw significant changes at the club before leaving the board in the early 1990s.
Previously involved at Waterlooville, he returned to his non-league roots and was involved in the merger that created Havant & Waterlooville.
More recently, Ray was a regular guest in the boardroom when Iain McInnes was Blues chairman and continued his commitment to the local football scene by taking on the role of Gosport CEO in 2017.
The thoughts of everyone at Portsmouth Football Club are with Ray’s family and friends at this difficult time.
