Seddon: Promotion The Target

Defender aiming high after completing loan switch

2 January 2020

Steve Seddon is excited to join Pompey’s battle to climb into the League One promotion spots in the second half of the season.

The left-back has moved to Fratton Park on loan from Birmingham for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.

He had similar stints at Stevenage and AFC Wimbledon last term, helping the latter to avoid the drop.

But now Seddon’s focus is on the other end of the table, with the Blues just a point outside the top six.

The 22-year-old said: “I was keen to get out on loan because I’ve been lacking game-time and Pompey got in touch.

“I believe that I can bring a lot of energy and a decent delivery. I enjoy my defending, but I also enjoy getting forward.

"I’m looking to help get Pompey promoted and I’m excited about the challenge."

“The experiences at Stevenage and AFC Wimbledon were both great for me – they helped me get to the point I’m at now.

“It was challenging moving up to League One midway through last season, but we had a great run towards the end.

“The long-term ambition for me is to keep working my way up and play at as high a level as I possibly can.

“But right now I’m looking to help get Pompey promoted and I’m excited about the challenge. Let’s take one game at a time and try to climb the table.”

Seddon was part of the Birmingham side that were comfortably beaten by the Blues in the Carabao Cup back in August.

He said: “I found it a very frustrating game, but I’m looking forward to playing at Fratton Park again and creating some better memories.

“Pompey were really sharp that night, showed real purpose and looked to get in behind us. We struggled to get out of our own half.”
