The Wembley arch is moving closer into view as the Leasing.com Trophy reaches the quarter-final stage.
And Ryan Williams admits that it is a powerful incentive for progressing even further in the competition.
Pompey take on Scunthorpe at Fratton Park this evening, looking to continue their defence of the silverware.
Williams has fond memories of competing at the national stadium and would love to return there with his current club.
The winger said: “It would be great to be the first team to retain the trophy and you always want to take the chance of playing at Wembley.
“So now we know that we need to win two games – and then hopefully a third one because nobody wants to go there and lose!

“But it is exciting. I’ve played there before with Rotherham in the play-offs and we won after extra-time, which was an amazing experience.
“We beat Scunthorpe in the semi-finals to get there, so I’ve got pretty fond memories of coming up against them.”
Pompey also remain in the FA Cup, while only goal difference is keeping them outside the League One play-off places.
Williams said: “We would have liked to have picked up a few more points over Christmas, but everyone’s just getting on with things now.
“Nobody’s over excited at the moment and as soon as one game is over, we’re just concentrating on the next one.
“But we’re in a really good position at the moment and despite only sitting seventh, we’re just a few points off the promotion positions.
“We know that if we can put a run together in the second half of the season, then we can sneak into the top two.”
