Best+Worst: Andy Cannon

Blues midfielder in the hot-seat

27 June 2020

Pompey midfielder Andy Cannon selects some of his bests and worsts...

What is the best game you have been involved in?
When I was at Rochdale and we drew 2-2 at home to Tottenham in the FA Cup. It was an unbelievable experience and we equalised in the last minute to get a replay at Wembley.

What is the best goal you have ever scored?
The one I enjoyed the most was in a draw for Rochdale at Sheffield United. The keeper came out to close me down and I took it round him to score right in front of their fans.

Who is the best player you have appeared alongside?
It’s got to be Nathaniel Mendez-Laing or Jamie Allen, who were both great on their day.

Who is the best player you have come up against?
That would be John Guidetti, who was playing for the Manchester City development team at the time. I think he scored about four goals in that game.

What is the best thing on television?
Power – it’s rare that I get myself really into a series, but I really enjoy it.

What is the worst thing about being a footballer?
Injuries are the worst, but there’s also not being able to properly relax and enjoy yourself over Christmas.

What is the worst game you have been involved in?
Oxford away last season. It was early in my Pompey career and it wasn’t a great day for us.

Who is the worst dressed player in the Pompey dressing room?
Christian Burgess by an absolute mile, although Ronan Curtis is pretty bad as well.

What is the worst food to eat?
Black pudding. I can’t stand anything about it. Pork scratchings are another northern thing that I hate.

What is the worst thing that is currently on television?
I tend to just watch things that I want to see, but I’ll say Hollyoaks. Whenever I check it out, it’s always rubbish.
