It has been a long and arduous wait for football to return in England.
The Premier League restarts on Wednesday, with League Two play-offs the following evening and then the Championship getting underway next weekend.
It is, however, a slightly longer wait for those third tier clubs – Pompey included – still fighting for promotion.
But Kenny Jackett is delighted that his side have now resumed full training as they prepare for July’s two-legged meeting with Oxford.
The Blues boss said: “We’ve missed it and all the players have a great enthusiasm to see each other and prepare to play football again.
“It’s been a long process in terms of sorting out League One, but we know where are – and it’s what we thought it would be all along.
“Now we have to compete and do what we’re all here for – which is to try to get into the Championship.
"We’ve missed it and all the players have a great enthusiasm to see each other and prepare to play football again."
“There are some contractual situations that we’ll continue to talk about, but the players are all committed and that’s the main thing. They’ve been working hard and enthusiasm levels are high.
“We’ve got a strong squad and there’s a good focus and determination from them to be successful this season.”
Two members of the Pompey squad are not currently involved in training after testing positive for Covid-19.
Jackett said: “They’ll obviously need their time away to self-isolate and we won’t take any chances – either with those lads or the guys who are here working.
“We make sure everything’s safe and they won’t be participating in training until that time has been respected.
“Both of them are in good shape mentally and are also showing no symptoms, which is very good news.”
