Tackling Loneliness With Pompey in the Community

Do you know someone who would benefit from a friendly chat?

4 November 2020

With the backing of the English Football League Trust, Pompey in the Community (PitC) are supporting those more vulnerable members of our community throughout the pandemic.

The ‘Tackling Loneliness Together’ project is aimed at connecting older people who are at risk of loneliness and isolation.

During lockdown, PitC delivered food parcels to isolated residents and in some weeks there were more than 600 handed out.

For many, contact with delivery staff was the only conversation they had each week and although there were many harrowing stories, it was a privilege to be able to make a tangible difference to our community.

"If you like to talk Pompey or enjoy a homemade afternoon tea delivery, then please get in touch."

We continue to keep in touch with those involved through phone conversations, welfare checks and online conferencing to ensure they feel valued and involved.

And now we are reaching out to any Blues fans who might benefit from a friendly phone call, a delivery of afternoon tea or simply a socially distanced chat at the front door!

Clare Martin, CEO of Pompey in the Community, said: “With the darker evenings and autumnal weather, there are many people going days without a friendly chat or a shared smile.

“We all have one thing in common – a love of our club. If you like to talk Pompey or enjoy a homemade afternoon tea delivery, then please get in touch.”
