Forward looks ahead to Northampton test

27 October 2020

Victories at Gillingham and Sunderland in the past week have sent Pompey flying up the table.

They are currently sitting fifth in the League One standings ahead of Northampton’s visit to the south coast this evening.

But Marcus Harness knows that the Blues cannot afford to sit back and relax during this busy run of fixtures.

And after scoring in Saturday’s impressive 3-1 win on Wearside, he is keen for them to keep building momentum.

Harness said: “There are no easy matches in this division and so, of course, we have to respect Northampton.

“It can be hard at times when you’re not winning games that you should and so it’s definitely worth it when things come together.

"We can’t get too confident or too high and think that we can afford to take our foot off the gas after Saturday.

“So everyone’s buzzing around the place at the moment and hopefully we can use that good feeling to our advantage.

“But we can’t get too confident or too high and think that we can afford to take our foot off the gas after Saturday.

“It’s important to build on that and nobody in the squad is going to think we’ve made it after a couple of good results.

“Most of the season is still ahead of us and so we’ll just turn up and try to keep doing what we’ve done well in the past week.”

Tonight’s contest will, of course, take place at a virtually empty Fratton Park, with games continuing to be held behind closed doors.

Harness said: “It’s horrible at the moment and hopefully they’ll be back sooner or later. It will be great to get back to how it was.”
