Academy Draw At Bournemouth

Young Blues collect a point on opening day

12 September 2020

Pompey Academy began the new Youth Alliance League campaign with a goalless draw at Bournemouth.

The hosts hit the woodwork on three separate occasions, while the Blues also carved out opportunities at the other end.

It looked like the Cherries would claim all three points after being awarded a late penalty, only for Leon Pitman (pictured) to deny Euan Pollock.

Bournemouth had to play out the closing stages with just 10 men, as Khavarn Williams was shown a red card.

"The lads equipped themselves well and everyone played their part after such a long time without a proper game."

Liam Daish

Professional development phase coach Liam Daish said: “It was a competitive contest and we had chances to get our noses in front, while they also went close.

“Leon made a late penalty save and all things considered, it was a decent start against, in my opinion, one of the better sides in our league.

“The lads equipped themselves well and everyone played their part after such a long time without a proper game.”

Pompey: Pitman; Setters, Kaba, Cadman, Rew; Bell, Jewitt-White; Lee, Bridgman (Dawson 51), Brook; Anderson
