Pompey began the new season by collecting a point against Shrewsbury at Fratton Park.
The goalless encounter – which saw Jack Whatmough make his 100th appearance – failed to ignite before the break.
But Kenny Jackett's side went close in the second half, as Lee Brown had a couple of free-kicks saved, while Tom Naylor struck the woodwork before Aaron Pierre was sent off for the visitors late on.
