Pompey continued their fine form in the EFL Trophy by starting this season's campaign with a victory.
Marcus Harness bagged two goals in quick succession before the break to seal a 2-0 win against Colchester at Fratton Park.
Kenny Jackett's troops will also face Southend and West Ham U21s in Southern Group A of the competition.
