Match Preview: Yeovil v Pompey Women

Blues start season on the road

19 September 2020

Pompey Women begin their 2020/21 campaign when they travel to Yeovil on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

The game comes one week after the Blues’ 4-0 victory in their final pre-season fixture against Boldmere St. Michaels.

There has been a wait of six months since their last game in this competition – which saw them fall to a late defeat against Oxford.

The summer only saw three departures from the squad, with Amelia Southgate announcing her retirement in July, goalkeeper Mel Burns deciding to focus on her work career and Molly Clark making the move along the coast to Bournemouth.

Blues boss Jay Sadler has managed to bolster his squad with the arrival of several new recruits in recent weeks.

Ava Rowbotham penned a permanent deal following her loan spell last term, while Kat Cunningham and Abi Mason signed from Reading and Brighton’s academy sides respectively.

Pompey enter the National League South contest on the back of a strong pre-season, which saw them win five out of eight matches.

Sadler is without forward Charmaine True, who is suffering with a muscle strain, but Cunningham and Laura Ingram have returned to training and will receive a fitness test on Sunday.

Supporters who want to support the Blues at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium must book their tickets online here.

Despite the reduced risk, those attending will need to register on the track and trace forms provided by Yeovil. These can be filled out online here.
