Match Preview: Cardiff v Pompey Women

Blues visit Wales this weekend

21 August 2021

Pompey Women

Pompey Women are on the road for the first time this season when they visit Cardiff on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

It is the Blues' first competitive away game since a 1-0 defeat to Crawley last November.

And Jay Sadler's side have not made a trip to the Welsh Capital since they enjoyed a 2-1 victory over the Bluebirds back in 2019.

They fell behind early that day, but Tamsin de Bunsen levelled with a fine long-range strike and a 30-yard rocket from Eilidh Currie secured the points.

Pompey began their National League South campaign with a thumping 5-1 success over Plymouth last week.

Cherelle Khassal netted an impressive four goals on her debut after Shannon Albuery had opened the scoring.

It was not such an enjoyable outcome for Cardiff, however, who fell to a 3-0 defeat at Crawley.

They were sitting comfortably in sixth position last term before Covid-19 ensured the campaign was curtailed.

But they had only managed to play four league matches and came out on top in three of them.

The game is being played at the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence (CF82 7EP), with tickets available to purchase on the day.
