Match Preview: Pompey Women v Oxford

Blues back at Westleigh Park

26 August 2021

Pompey Women return to Westleigh Park on Sunday, as the welcome Oxford for a National League contest (2pm kick-off).

The clash comes off the back of a narrow away defeat at Crawley on Wednesday evening.

Cherelle Khassal immediately cancelled out an early Wasps opener with a neat finish over keeper Megen Lynch.

But the Sussex side roared into a 3-1 lead after the break and although Khassal struck again in the closing stages, a leveller was not forthcoming.

The last meeting with Oxford was in March 2020 – and proved to be the final fixture for the Blues before the Covid-19 pandemic forced the season to be curtailed.

Hayley Bridge was on target in that away contest, but Daisy McLachlan found the target against her former club to seal all three points for United.

Oxford thrashed MK Dons 5-1 earlier in the week and currently sit third in the standings – one place above Pompey on goal difference.
