Clark Robertson has targeted a fast start for Pompey at Millwall tonight.
The Blues take on Championship opposition under the floodlights at The Den in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
It comes after an, at times, unconvincing victory at Fleetwood on the opening day of the League One campaign.
And Robertson knows that Pompey will be put under pressure as the home faithful make a long-awaited return to watch their side in action.
The defender said: “Cup games are always exciting and you know that it’s not going to be easy when you’re away at Millwall.
“It’s the first time they’ll have had fans inside the stadium for quite some time, so it should be quite some atmosphere.
"We need to make a good start – better than we did on Saturday – and look to play the game in their half."
“The fans are right on top of you and you usually get a fair bit of abuse when you go there as an opposition player!
“We need to make a good start – better than we did on Saturday – and look to play the game in their half.
“We did grow into the contest at Fleetwood and got the goal in the second half, then held on for the clean sheet.
“It might not have been a great performance from us, but it was a great result on the opening day of the season.
“We could have felt sorry for ourselves after a poor first half. This is a tight-knit group, though, and we improved a lot.
“There is quality in this squad and I’m sure the manager will be adding more depth for that before the transfer window closes.”
