Callum Johnson knows Pompey have to start winning consistently to maintain their automatic promotion charge.
They have been in fine form on the road this season, with Blackpool the only side to send them home empty-handed.
But the Blues need to improve their record at Fratton Park, with one point collected from the past three home games.
It is something that Johnson hopes they can put right when struggling Swindon visit the south coast this evening.
The right-back said: “We obviously do need more points per game than we’re getting at the moment.
“There was a good performance at Charlton last week and then I thought we were the better side against Plymouth on Saturday, but could only draw.
"It’s a real snowball effect and if you win a couple of matches in a row, then the confidence keeps growing."
“So we’re looking for a positive run of form and momentum is something that’s perhaps underrated in football.
“When we won the league at Accrington, we were going into every game just knowing we were going to win.
“It’s a real snowball effect and if you win a couple of matches in a row, then the confidence keeps growing.
“There’s so many different ways of winning games, but getting that first goal is often crucial and we’ve got to believe we can get it.”
Johnson has been impressed with fellow defender James Bolton following his recent return to the side.
He said: “He’s done really well since coming into the team. He’s next to me and so we’ve been talking a lot to help each other.
