Naylor Wins Goal Award

Skipper tops public vote for Peterborough strike

22 January 2021

Tom Naylor has won the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month award for December.

The Pompey skipper received 45 per cent of the public vote for his stunning strike in a victory over Peterborough at Fratton Park.

He said: “I’m delighted to win this award and would like to thank everybody who voted for me in the poll.

“I was really pleased with the strike against Peterborough and hopefully I can provide a few more goals to help the team in the second half of the season.

“More importantly, though, we want to continue our good form and make sure we remain in the fight for promotion.”

Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman said: “Naylor is making quite the habit of scoring goals this season, but I’d be very surprised if he manages to strike one better than this in the remainder of the season.

“The lay-off from Andy Cannon was there to be hit first and Naylor duly obliged, rocketing the ball into the top corner, giving the 2,000 Pompey fans that were lucky enough to be there a memory that will stay with them for a long time.”

Naylor saw off competition from Crewe's Owen Dale and Charlton's Marcus Maddison to secure the prize.
