Pompey were beaten 2-0 by Brighton’s U23 side in a pre-season friendly at the Sussex side’s training ground.
It was the visitors who were first to threaten, as Mia Adaway flashed a shot narrowly past the post midway through the first half.
The contest was evenly poised as the interval approached, with clear-cut chances proving to be at a premium.
But Cherelle Khassal almost broke the deadlock with her first touch, only to be denied by a fine save after being sent through on goal.
Instead it was Seagulls who managed to break the deadlock right on the stroke of half-time to leave the Blues trailing at the break.
And Pompey were left with a bigger mountain to climb after conceding a second goal shortly after the restart.
Emma Jones tried to hit back, drawing a smart stop from the keeper before teeing-up Khassal for a volley that flew narrowly over.
Khassal then saw another attempt tipped around the post as Pompey failed to find a late breakthrough.
