Pompey Women Sign Dani Lane

Blues bring in midfielder

12 July 2021

Pompey Women are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Dani Lane.

The midfielder joins the Blues following her departure from Championship side Lewes at the end of last season.

She had initially joined the Rooks back in 2014 and remained with the Sussex outfit for six seasons.

Lane appeared 47 times for them in the second tier and found the net in her final appearance for the club against Crystal Palace.

Blues boss Jay Sadler said: “I’m really happy to add Dani to this current group. She has had a good footballing education at Lewes and has spent the past couple of seasons competing in the Championship.

“She is a tenacious midfielder who will bring plenty of energy and a different dynamic. I feel the technical side of her game goes under the radar.

"Although measured and very humble, there’s a fighter inside and I can’t wait to see this side of her character on the pitch."

“Dani is a really intelligent player, with great vision and offers progression with her passing and runs from deep.

“Off the pitch, her leadership qualities are already evident. Although measured and very humble, there’s a fighter inside and I can’t wait to see this side of her character on the pitch.”

Dani added: “I’m really excited to get going here and am looking forward to the new challenge.

“I always look for ways to push myself as a player and I still feel I can develop. I’m hoping my experience at Championship level will help me when competing in this league.

“It’s always a challenge to adapt to a new environment, especially when I was at Lewes for so long.

“But the girls and the staff here have been so welcoming. It also helps that I’ve got a familiar face in Emma (Jones) here, too.”
