Pompey Women Sign Evie Gane

Blues bring in defender

10 July 2021

Pompey Women have secured the signing of defender Evie Gane.

The 21-year-old arrives on the south coast after leaving Championship side London Bees at the end of the 2020/21 season.

She has also appeared for Reading, Oxford and Aston Villa, as well as earning caps for Wales at U18 and U19 level.

Blues boss Jay Sadler said: “I’m really pleased to welcome Evie to Pompey. She joins with Championship experience and has ambitions of getting back to that level.

“In her short time here, Evie has impressed us massively. She is a very astute and athletic football player.

“She’s very comfortable in possession, always looking to break lines and support the attack. Additionally, she will bring pace, height and dominance to our backline.

“I feel it’s an exciting signing for us because there's also a lot more to come from her and I feel the environment we’ve built here will aid her development.”

Gane revealed there were three main reasons which helped her make the decision to sign for the Blues.

She said: “I know of Jay through other people, I know he’s a great coach and I’ve always wanted to work under him.

“This is a great club with a great fan-base and I know that from playing against Pompey in the past. That was definitely something that attracted me to the club.

“And finally the club is going completely in the right direction, it has built year-on-year and I think it’s a really exciting time.”
