Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that Ben Close will sign for Doncaster when his contract expires at the end of the month.
The club had been in negotiations with the 24-year-old midfielder, but he has opted for a move to the Keepmoat Stadium.
A graduate of the Blues academy who was born in the city, he made his debut in an EFL Trophy victory at Yeovil back in September 2014.
Close netted 18 times in 190 appearances for the club – including a stunning strike against Tranmere that was named League One’s Goal of the Month for August 2019.
He became a regular in the side during Kenny Jackett’s second season in charge and started the dramatic Wembley clash with Sunderland that saw Pompe lift the EFL Trophy.
Doncaster finished 14th in League One last term and recently appointed Richie Wellens as manager, with former Blues striker Noel Hunt his assistant.
Everyone at Pompey would like to thank Ben for his service to the club and we wish him all the best for the future.
👏 Thank you for your efforts, @Ben8Close
