Whatmough To Sign For Wigan

Defender agress deal with League One club

4 June 2021

Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that Jack Whatmough will sign for Wigan when his contract expires at the end of the month.

The club were in negotiations with the defender over a new deal, but he has opted to join the Latics.

Whatmough is a graduate of the Blues academy, who made his debut – at the age of just 17 – in a defeat to Southend in November 2013.

He has overcome a series of serious knee injuries during his time at Fratton Park, but played a role in the side that dramatically secured the 2016/17 League Two title.

The former England youth international scored three times in 136 Pompey games, including 38 appearances last term.

Wigan – who are managed by former Blues assistant Leam Richardson – recently exited administration and finished the 2020/21 season one place above the League One drop zone.

Everyone at Pompey would like to thank Jack for his service to the club and we wish him all the best for the next stage of his career.
