Pompey Academy got their Merit League campaign off to the perfect start with a 4-0 victory over Oxford at Furze Lane.
Seok Jae Lee (pictured) gave them an interval lead, while Harry Jewitt-White then converted an Alfie Bridgman delivery early in the second half.
And substitutes Kristian Dawson and Dan Gifford both struck in the closing stages to wrap up a convincing display.
Professional development phase coach Liam Daish said: “It was a really encouraging performance and we started brightly.
“There was a good shape about us – we looked compact – and the lads impressed both in and out of possession.
"We allowed them to work out any problems that arose during the game and take a bit more responsibility."
“We pressed our opponents well and caused them plenty of trouble with our counter-attacks. The result was thoroughly deserved.
“From a coaching perspective, it was great to see the lads working hard for each other and you could them helping their team-mates with good information.
“We allowed them to work out any problems that arose during the game and take a bit more responsibility.
“So all in all, it was a positive day and it was nice to see us score so many goals, while also keeping a clean sheet.”
