Match Preview: Gillingham v Pompey Women

Blues back on the road

1 October 2021

Pompey Women are back on the road this afternoon as they they take on Gillingham (2pm kick-off).

The National League contest follows on from their thumping 11-0 victory at Hounslow last weekend.

Dani Lane, Shannon Albuery and Sammy Quayle all hit hat-tricks in that contest, while Ava Rowbotham and Rosie McDonnell also contributed.

The most recent clash with the Gills took place at Westleigh Park 12 months ago and saw the Blues trail to an early strike from Otesha Charles.

But Becki Bath levelled before the break and Ava Rowbotham then produced a moment of brilliance, with the midfielder's audacious chip in the closing stages securing all three points.

Today's opponents currently sit seventh in the standings, having collected victories over Plymouth, Chichester & Selsey and Hounslow.

They also drew with Bridgwater and have suffered defeats to the high-flying trio of Southampton, Ipswich and Oxford.

Pompey, meanwhile, are in third position, with a haul of 13 points from six games and a healthy tally of 26 goals.

Jay Sadler will still be without Cherelle Khassal – who is recovering from a minor operation – as well as long-term absentees Emma Jones and Laura Ingram.

The game is being held at the Rochester United Sports Ground (ME2 3TU), with tickets available to buy at the turnstiles.

They are priced £5 for adults and £2 for under-18s, with free entry for under-11s.
