Blues Lift PDFA Cup

Pompey beat Moneyfields 4-0 in final

27 April 2022

Pompey Women kept hold of the Portsmouth Divisional FA Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Moneyfields in the final.

Shannon Albuery hit a hat-trick in the showpiece contest at Baffins’ PMC Stadium, with Cherelle Khassal also on target.

Jay Sadler made five changes from the side that were beaten in the south coast derby the previous week.

Skipper Danielle Rowe returned to the starting line-up, along with Jazz Younger, Freya Jones, Dani Lane and Hayley Bridge.

There were just seven minutes on the clock when ALBUERY dispossessed Megan McGreage and rolled the ball past Lauren Sayler to break the deadlock.

It was a fairly even affair, however, and Hannah Haughton had to tip one shot from Kim Whitcomb against the bar.

But Pompey doubled their advantage before the break, as ALBUERY rose to nod home from a Rowe corner.

She then turned provider just past the hour mark, flicking the ball on for KHASSAL to run onto and coolly slot past the keeper.

Moneyfields gave the ball away soon after and ALBUERY took advantage to angle a shot into the net and complete her treble.

The Blues then saw out the closing stages before Rowe was able to lift the trophy to add to last month’s Hampshire Cup triumph.

Pompey: Haughton (Kingshott 75); Rowe (c), Younger, Gane (Tonks 69), McDonnell (Quayle 69); Rolf (Rowbotham 39), F.Jones, Lane; Bridge, Albuery, Khassal
