Pompey produced one of their best displays of the season to stun title-chasing Rotherham earlier in the week.

And now Hayden Carter has challenged them to maintain those high levels over the busy Easter bank holiday weekend.

A trip to Morecambe lies in wait on Monday, but the current focus is on hosting Lincoln on Good Friday.

Carter knows it will not be easy against a side still looking to confirm their League One status for next season, but wants to make the most of home advantage.

The defender said: “We let ourselves and the fans down at Cheltenham last Saturday, so to produce the performance we did on Tuesday night was brilliant.

“Hopefully we can now follow that up with another win when we play Lincoln and it’s a good opportunity for us to build.

"We’re at Fratton Park, where the fans are always brilliant, and it’s great to have quite a few games there in a short space of time."

“You know that every game in this division is going to be tough – and Friday will certainly be no different. They’ve got some quality players.

“But we’re at Fratton Park, where the fans are always brilliant, and it’s great to have quite a few games there in a short space of time.

“This is a busy run that we’re in and it’s tough, although I don’t think there will be any excuses about fatigue.

“We’ve been working hard on our recovery after every game and we’ll always be ready to attack the next one.”

It looked like Carter would double his Pompey goal account against the Millers, only for his ferocious drive to be superbly saved by Viktor Johansson.

The loanee said: “I don’t think I’ve ever hit a ball as well as that, but the keeper just managed to get there. It didn’t matter in the end, though, because we won comfortably.”
