Raggett: Quality Was Missing

Defender disappointed by display at Cheltenham

9 April 2022

Sean Raggett felt that Pompey failed to make the most of their promising moments against Cheltenham.

There were plenty of chances created by both sides during an entertaining opening 45 minutes at Whaddon Road.

But despite looking dangerous, the visitors were unable to convert that into goals and were undone after the break by Liam Sercombe’s strike.

And Raggett knows that the performance from the Blues after the break was simply not good enough.

The centre-back said: “Everyone’s incredibly disappointed because we needed a win and I thought we played reasonably well in patches.

“But we couldn’t quite turn those good positions into clear-cut chances and that’s happened a lot this season.

"We had some decent control during much of the game and were just unable to break them down to find the goal we needed."

“We then came out in the second half and it was nowhere near what was needed. We were really poor.

“Cheltenham had a good spell of pressure and they scored during that, while we didn’t show enough quality.

“We had some decent control during much of the game and were just unable to break them down to find the goal we needed.”

Pompey now have six fixtures remaining of the 2021/22 campaign and Raggett is determined to finish on a high.

He said: “We just have to take one game at a time now and try to win every one when they come along.

“I’m never one to give up and we’ll approach the next match and do our very best to get a positive result.”
